API Terms of Use

By accessing or using the Student Loan Hero’s (“SLH”) API Personal Loans Tool (the “Service”) you, the User, hereby accept, agree to, and acknowledge the terms and conditions set forth in this agreement (this “Agreement”). You may contact SLH at info@studentloanhero.com with questions about this Agreement.

I. Definitions

The words “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Student Loan Hero, Inc. The words “you” and “your” means the User who submits a request for a pre-qualified offer for a personal loan refinancing via our Service. Our “Partners” means the third party companies listed on our website who we will be submitting your pre-qualified offer Request to. Our Partners include Upstart Network, Inc. (“Upstart”), Payoff Inc. (“Payoff”), and Social Finance, Inc. (“Sofi”). “Request” means your request to receive a pre-qualified offer for a personal loan refinancing from one or several of our Partners via the Service.

II. Consent to Electronic Communications

User expressly acknowledges and agrees to the following:

  • You wish to receive refinancing quotes from our Partners;
  • You consent to receiving communications electronically from our Partners in connection with your Request;
  • You consent to our Partners sending you disclosures, notices, documents, and information via email or online.
  • You consent to our Partners use and acceptance of your electronic signatures, records, and disclosures and to conducting transactions by means of these electronic signatures, records, and disclosures.

This consent applies to all interactions online concerning you and our Partners and includes those interactions engaged on any mobile device.

Method of Electronic Communication

All communications that Partners provide to you electronically will be provided either (i) directly to any email address provided to us (or any email address you provide to us or any Partner later); (ii) on our any Partner’s website; or (iii) directly by text or SMS to any mobile number provided us (or any mobile number you provide to any Partner later). OUR PARTNERS MAY USE SUCH MEANS OF COMMUNICATION EVEN IF YOU WILL INCUR COSTS TO RECEIVE SUCH PHONE MESSAGES, TEXT MESSAGES, E-MAILS OR COMMUNICATIONS SENT VIA OTHER MEANS.

Hardware Requirements

You will need a computer with an Internet connection; a current web browser that includes 128-bit encryption and with cookies enabled (e.g. Internet Explorer version 11.0 and above, Firefox version 52.0 and above, Chrome version 55.0 and above, or Safari 9.1 and above); a valid email address; and sufficient storage space to save past communications or an installed printer to print them. You confirm that you have access to the necessary equipment and software to receive and save/print communications sent to you.

Withdrawing Your Consent and Obtaining Paper Copies

To withdraw your consent and obtain paper copies of any electronic communications, please contact the relevant SLH Partner directly by following the instructions below:


You may withdraw your consent to receive communications electronically from Upstart by emailing support@upstart.com; by calling (650) 204-1000 during our operating hours 9:00 AM PST to 5:00 PM PST, each Monday through Friday that are Business Days; or by writing via regular mail at Upstart Network, Inc., P.O. Box 1503, San Carlos, CA 94070. If you withdraw your consent to receive communications electronically, Upstart reserves the right to charge you additional fees for paper copies – up to $10.

Keep Your Contact Information Current

You are responsible for making sure your contact information is accurate and that any partners with whom you communicate are informed of any change in your e-mail address or mailing address.

III. Authorization to Obtain my credit report

User expressly acknowledges and agrees to the following:

  • You authorizing SLH to send your personal information to SLH’s Partners on your behalf.
  • You authorize SLH’s Partner to obtain consumer reports and related information about you from one or more consumer reporting agencies, such as TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax.
  • You authorize SLH’s Partner to use your consumer reports to authenticate your identity, to make credit decisions, and for other related purposes.
  • You consent to be contacted directly by SLH’s Partner in connection with refinancing opportunities.

IV. User Information

User represents that the information it submits to SLH in connection with the Service (“User Information”) is true and accurate and that the User has the right to submit all such information to SLH.

V. No Warranty

SLH does not warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of its Service or of any information it provides to its Users. Any reliance you place on such Service or information is strictly at your own risk. SLH disclaims all liability and responsibility arising from any reliance placed on its Service.

VI. Privacy

SLH values its User’s privacy. We will not sell or furnish User’s information and we shall keep any collected information in a secure and confidential manner. Except as required by law or regulation, SLH will require written authorization to release information to a 3rd party.
